Sex Trade Action Committee

Avenue B chairs the Sex Trade Action Committee. Since its beginning in 2003, the Sex Trade Action Committee’s purpose has been to help members of our community impacted by the sex trade through harm reduction, advocacy and education.

We have one part time Outreach Worker whose job is to help connect sex trade workers with legal information and services, maintain a “bad john” list for the safety of workers and promote advocacy and education to the general community around the sex trade in Saint John.

STAC meets once a month to discuss issues around the sex trade with various community partners. Among the members of our board are the TRC, Saint John Police Department, Coverdale Centre, Public Health and others who have interactions with sex workers. Members report on the problems that they’ve seen for either the community or the workers themselves, then together make an action plan to alleviate the issues.
